Jinack Niji In Niumi National Park In Gambia

Jinack Island is 9 miles long by 2 miles wide and is situated on the North Gambia / South Senegal border on the North bank of the River Gambia within the Niumi National Park in West Africa. On the West of Jinack  Island are miles of deserted beaches lapped by the warm waters of the Atlantic Ocean and the River Gambia. On the East are meandering mangrove creeks.

For a one-day trip to Jinack Island and Feel Free Eco Lodge, the following itinerary is recommended: If you’re planning your first trip to Jinack Island in Gambia, here are some tips to ensure a smooth and enjoyable first time visit to Jinack.

Hotel Pickup:
You will be picked up from your hotel between 6-6:30 am.

Cross the River Gambia:
Arrive at Banjul and choose one of the three options to cross the River Gambia to Barra. You can either take the ferry or opt for a local commuter or cargo canoe.

Land Rover Journey:
After reaching Barra on the north bank of the river, embark on a Land Rover journey through local villages, countryside, and salt flats.

Niji Creek Crossing:
Arrive at the banks of the Niji Creek and cross the creek in a small canoe, which will take you to the village of Ginack Niji.

Reach Feel Free Lodge:
Take a short journey by donkey cart from Ginack Niji to Feel Free Lodge. Upon arrival, you will be served drinks and lunch.

Beach Activities and Nature Trails:
Enjoy a leisurely walk along the deserted beach, while the fishing rods are set up for beach or boat fishing. Explore the nature trails and treks to observe the island’s flora and fauna. Alternatively, you can swim in the sea and relax on the beach with fishing rods and cold beverages.

Guided Tour:
Knowledgeable guides will be available to answer your questions about the history and culture of Jinack Island. They can also take you to specific sites of interest, such as the village school or the crocodile pool.

Return Journey:
Depart from Feel Free Lodge and make your way back. Drive to Barra and cross the River Gambia again, either by ferry or local canoe, to reach Banjul. Finally, return to your hotel by around 6 pm.
